LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif has returned home after cutting short his London visit in the wake of rising political temperature caused by harsh statements of some leaders of his party and the Pakistan People’s Party against each other’s leadership in the post-NRO scenario.
Ahsan Iqbal, the PML-N spokesperson, said Sharif had been requested to return early so that a strategy could be finalised to cope with the situation arising out of the Supreme Court’s decision on the National Reconciliation Ordinance and PPP’s apparent decision to make it controversial.
He said worsening relations between the PML-N and the PPP because of harsh statements from both sides over the past few days and their consequences would also figure in the consultations.
He did not rule out a meeting between Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, but stressed that there should be a formal agenda for the talks. “Meeting just for the sake of meeting gives birth to despair and distrust,” Iqbal said.
A PML-N leader said Sharif was concerned at the tough stand some party hawks were taking against President Zardari.
