Government has always respected constitution: Zardari

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari asserted Thursd
ay that the government will take all the decisions according to the Constitution of Pakistan. “We have always respected constitution.”

“Whether these decisions are related to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, programme for the rights of Balochistan or National Finance Commission (NFC) Award these will be taken within the ambit of the Constitution, he said while addressing a consultative meeting of senior PPP workers who are also ministers in the Federal and Sindh Cabinet, at Bilawal House here.

“We are the political party which gave 1973 Constitution to Pakistan. We have continued our struggle for a long time within the boundaries of law. We will also keep alive the legacy of democracy in a democratic way”, he added.

Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri who briefed the newsmen after the meeting said that President Zardari has vowed to face the non-issues, which are raised with the aim to divert the focus of the government from implementing people- friendly policies and measures to improve the life of the common man.

She said that President Asif Zardari who is also PPP Co-chairman said that PPP has a track record of respecting judgements of the courts.

“We have always respected the institutions. We can differ with an individual’s opinion or statement but would not differ with an institution. We never did it in the past nor we will set any such tradition in future”, she said quoting the PPP Co-chairman.

She said that President Zardari who is also the Co-chairman of PPP, has highlighted the policies and issues about the party and also about current political situation in the country where non-issues are being raised one after another to divert the focus of the government.
